Standard(GTE)  Versus Premium(Covad) DSL Comparison

MM Internet offers different speeds of DSL in what we call our "Regular Offerings" and our "Premium Offerings." This page will hopefully give you a good idea of what the differencs are. The biggest differences are quality of the connection and coverage, but there are many differences you may want to think about.

MM Internet provides your connection to the Internet, but we work with GTE and Covad to provide the physical DSL line to you - the wire and telecommunications equipment. MM Internet provides the same Internet connection quality and customer support for all of our services, and the differences between our regular and premium offerings are due only to the fact that GTE and Covad offer different DSL services.

  Regular DSL Premium DSL
MM Internet's Service Partner GTE Covad
Target Customer Home and small business customers Business and professional customers
Coverage About 80% of areas with GTE as a local provider Almost all areas in Los Angeles and San Diego, both GTE and Pacific Bell
Connection Quality (from your location to MM Internet) Usually good, but GTE says it's not guaranteed Covad says at least 80% of the DSL bandwidth you sign up for is guaranteed, 24x7
Setup Process Lead times of one month, and qualifications can take several days. You must be available from 9am to 5pm for a GTE technician. Lead times of 15-18 days, and qualifications usually take place overnight. We can schedule morning or afternoon installations. There is a monetary penalty for missing the Covad technician.
Price Lower, budget service Higher, business oriented service
Customer Experiences About 20% of our potential customers don't qualify for regular DSL service, but they probably would qualify for premium service. From the feedback we've gathered, our regular DSL customers have been very happy with their connections. Since our premium service is such a new offering, we haven't gotten enough feedback to say anything.
Recommendations If you're in GTE territory, qualify for our regular service, and a possibly slower connection at times won't drastically affect you, we'd recommend one of our regular services. If you're in PacBell territory or are out of GTE's range, or if your connection bandwirdth will be important to you, we'd recommend one of our premium services.
